Brand new game from Jani Nykänen, A Prison for Dreams, is a 2D pixelart metroidvania platformer adventure where you play as an anonymous hero who… wakes up in a graveyard.
You are given a mission to find the Great Dreamer, who needs your help once again. Explore a decently sized world (it’s not small, but it’s not really huge either), kill innocent monsters, obtain new items to become more powerful and reach places you couldn’t reach before… you know, classic metroidvania stuff.
You may know Jani from participating in the js13kGames competition over the years, including the 2022 entry Dying Dreams, which seems to look like an origin story for A Prison for Dreams.
The recently released game offers a few new features though, like slopes, no climbing, free camera, and automatic saving.
You can play the game online on Itch, or download it for Windows and MacOS. Controls include using a gamepad, and the sources of the game can be found on GitHub.
