Created by Renan Le Caro, Breakout 71 goes beyond the well known classic game mechanic by adding coins to make upgrades while finishing consecutive levels.
Break colourful bricks, catch bouncing coins and select powerful upgrades.
At the end of each level, you’ll choose one of three upgrades that persist across all future ones. Play those levels quickly, land every shot, and never miss a coin to unlock additional upgrade options.
A wide variety of upgrades are available; some boost your multiplier, while others make gameplay more forgiving. Your multiplier directly affects how many coins drop when you break a brick. Experiment with different synergies and discover unique playstyles based on your upgrade combinations.
The game is very lightweight (offline desktop version is at 221 kB
), written in pure JavaScript, mostly procedurally generated. The sources are available on GitLab. You can also play it on Itch where the author happily answers any comments or feature requests.
