Rune launches Creator Fund for indie games

Rune, the social gaming app with millions of players, has announced a new Creator Fund that allows developers to monetize their games.

It’s not easy to get started in game development. The competition is fierce, even in the indie scene. That’s why it’s encouraging when you are able to monetize your hard work when you’re still starting out. It’s not the first time that Rune has given back to developers. Earlier this year they offered $100k in grants to developers releasing open source games on their platform. Now they have announced that developers will be able to earn some money when players play their games.

We’ve heard from many game devs that earning their first $ from their game was magical and that every $ they earn via itch.io and Ko-fi donations feels great. We hope that Rune can do the same for lots of indie game devs!

A bit about Rune

Rune is more than a simple mobile gaming platform. It connects your game with a large user base and offers a multiplayer SDK, game hosting, and integrated voice chat, among other features. Focused on HTML5 mobile games, Rune seems committed to improving both mobile gaming and the developer experience.

At this moment, Rune has no revenue sources, being an early stage start-up. However, they plan to allow games to integrate in-game purchases while taking a small cut from those. This cut will then feed back into the creator fund. Regardless, you can already start earning credits when players play your games. You can then cash out those credits monthly once your game accumulates 100 hours of total gameplay per month. You can read more about the specifics of the credits and payout system here.

Are you planning on releasing a multiplayer game? Or perhaps the creator fund has peaked your interest? If that’s true, then visit their website and learn how you can integrate Rune into your game.
