Eoin McGrath, long time participant of both js13kGames competition and Gamedev.js Jam, released his LittleJS tutorial where you can learn how to build an example game, Little Ski.
Have you ever wanted to make a game but didn’t know where to start? Well, today is your lucky day. Because, we’re going to offload all the heavy lifting to a game engine and concentrate on the fun parts. In this tutorial, we will harness the power of LittleJS; which is super fast, ultra light, easy to grasp and developed by game dev industry veteran KilledByAPixel.
LittleJS created by Frank Force is a micro game engine and a popular choice in the js13kGames competition. We had the very first LittleJS Game Jam a few months ago, with many interesting entries being submitted by participants.
You’ll build Little Ski with pre-made images by Kenney and purposedfully limited scope:
- Casual game to be played on any device from phone to laptop
- Input simple as possible, i.e. one button
- Ready made assets so we can focus on the game
If you’d like to be prepared for upcoming game jams, this Little Ski tutorial is definitely worth checking out. The source code of the game can be found on GitHub.
