The fifteenth yearly edition of the js13kGames competition wrapped up submissions on September 13th, and this year we ended up with an impressive 317 games!

Developers had exactly one month between August 13th and September 13th to build a web game fitting into a tiny 13 kilobyte zip package. As we announced when js13kGames 2026 started, the theme this time was Unicorns and Rainbows – a considerably more cheerful direction than some of the themes from previous years.

Of course, being js13kGames, the theme was interpreted in all sorts of creative ways. Some entries went all-in on colorful unicorns and rainbows, others twisted the idea into something considerably darker, and many focused mostly on squeezing as much gameplay as possible into the strict size limit.

The 13 kilobyte restriction is what makes the competition particularly interesting from a web game development perspective. Everything from the code and graphics to sound effects, music, levels, procedural generation, and entire game systems has to fit inside the final compressed package. Developers regularly come up with clever tricks and custom tools to save individual bytes while still building games that feel surprisingly complete.

If you followed our previous js13kGames coverage, the number of submissions this year is particularly nice to see. The 2023 edition received 163 accepted games, while js13kGames 2024 ended up with 189 entries. Beside the regular Desktop and Mobile entries, developers could once again participate in additional optional categories. WebXR returned for games made for virtual and augmented reality devices, Online covered multiplayer and networked experiences, while the new Wavedash category encouraged participants to publish their games on the platform as well. Those categories come with their own rankings and dedicated prizes.

Now comes the fun part: play all 317 games submitted to js13kGames 2026. With so many entries there should be something for everyone, from tiny arcade games and puzzlers through platformers and strategy games to surprisingly ambitious experiments with procedural graphics, generated audio, multiplayer, and WebXR.

The submission deadline might be over, but the competition isn’t finished yet. Voting is currently in progress, so participants should log in and play as many entries as possible, rate them, and leave constructive feedback for fellow developers. The panel of js13kGames experts is busy doing the same and providing their own comments on assigned entries.

Feedback has always been an important part of the competition. Even if you didn’t submit a game yourself, you can still play the entries and leave comments for their authors.
